On Wednesday 19th July 2017, the Network hosted the annual summer luncheon on the terrace of the Cholmondeley Room at the House of Lords.
110 guests from business and parliament, including Wayne David MP, Chairman of the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Vietnam, Rt Hon George Howarth MP, Graham Brady MP, Stephen Pound MP and Lord Tim Clement-Jones. attended with the event beginning with Warwick Morris, Co Vice Chairman of the Network, welcoming The Rt Hon. the Lord Dholakia OBE DL as the esteemed host for the luncheon. Lord Dholakia welcomed everyone to the House of Lords and to the event before sharing his continued admiration of Vietnam.
Ben Chapman, Chairman of the Network, followed and emphasised the ongoing work of the Network and the voluntary expertise that the Executive Committee contribute, thanking all members for their active contributions and continued dedication. In closing, Ben offered sincere thanks and appreciation to the main sponsors Harvey Nash, NashTech, Prudential and KPMG.
A highlight of the event saw the recognition awards being awarded to Arup and was accepted by Mr Peter Budd CBE, Director of Arup, and Mr Nam Pham, Chairman of New World Fashion, for outstanding contribution to UK-Vietnam relations which were presented by the UK Vietnamese Ambassador, H.E. Nguyen Van Thao. Ambassador Thao went on to discuss how the relationship between the UK and Vietnam is stronger than ever, reinforcing how the expanding relationship between Governments has paved the way for such a successful partnership.
Paul Smith, Co Vice Chairman of the Network, welcomed keynote speaker Lord Green of Hurstpierpoint who shared his view on the ‘unmistakeable momentum in ASEAN’ which includes Vietnam. Lord Green then drew the Vietnam Airlines raffle which saw Son Thanh, President of British Vietnamese Association, win two return tickets to Vietnam with the airlines.
Paul Smith closed the proceedings with a final thank you to all speakers, guests and sponsors and shared some interesting take aways about Vietnam and the success the country has delivered through technology innovation.
